Featured in this lot is a Rare Signed Howard Terpning "Chief Joseph Rides To Surrender", Giclée on Canvas, Limited Edition, 163/225. "Chief Joseph Rides to Surrender" is a famous painting depicting the iconic moment in 1877 when the Nez Perce leader, Chief Joseph, rode to surrender his rifle to U.S. Army General Nelson Miles, ending the Nez Perce War near the Bear Paw Mountains in Montana and just short of safety in Canada. The wonderfully and professionally crafted Giclée on canvas artwork captures the profound sadness, dignity, and desperation of Chief Joseph and his people as their long, strategic retreat ended, marking the end of their traditional way of life, a poignant scene he memorialized with his famous words, "I will fight no more forever". Howard Terpning is an American painter and illustrator best known for his paintings of Native Americans. He is one of the most lauded painters of Western art. Over his lifetime he’s received the highest awards in the field, including the National Academy of Western Art’s Prix de West, the Hubbard Art Award for Excellence, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Autry National Center, and 2005 Masters of the American West Thomas Moran Memorial Award and countless others. He’s an Emeritus member of the Cowboy Artists of America with over forty-one awards from that organization. Terpning's work can be found in museums including the Phoenix Art Museum, Gilcrease Museum, Booth Western Art Museum, National Portrait Gallery, and the Autry National Center of the American West. The Giclée on canvas is numbered, dated and signed on the bottom left corner. Giclée on canvas footer is labeled "Greenwich Workshop Museum Edition". The condition of this beautiful Giclée on canvas is wonderful with no obvious signs of damage and shows very nice overall condition. Measures 44"W x
