Featured in this lot is this first edition of, "I Fought With Custer: The Story of Sergeant Windolph Last Survivor of The Battle of The Little Big Horn" by Frazier and Robert Hunt, copy-righted and printed by Charles Scribner's Sons in New York circa 1947. The book is a first-person account of the Battle of Little Bighorn as told by Charles Windolph, one of Custer's 7th Cavalry's last surviving troops. The book, written by Frazier and Robert Hunt, is based on Windolph's recollections and personal experiences, and it provides a detailed and vivid depiction of one of the most infamous clashes between US Army forces and Native American warriors, led by the legendary Sioux and Cheyenne leaders Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. Windolph, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his conduct during the battle, describes the events leading up to it, the hard combat, and the struggle for survival during and after the engagement. His story gives a soldier's perspective on the problems Custer's troops encountered, as well as the tactical errors that led to their defeat. In addition to describing the combat, Windolph discusses life in the US Army and the realities of frontier life. His tales are interspersed with descriptions of his fellow troops, especially Custer, and show both brotherhood and conflicts within the regiment. The book is a true first printing with Scribner's capital "A" right under the "All Rights Reserved" statement on the copyright page.
