For your consideration is an Imperial Japanese Type 32 Cavalry Sword. Introduced in 1899, this was the standard Japanese battle sword well into World War II. Beautifully crafted for heavy combat this sword has a checkered steel backed handle with matching checkered walnut handle with smooth steel hand guard. This early example also has a leather finger loop inside the guard that is intact- these usually missing. The scabbard correctly has one hanging ring and retains its black paint finish that shows only minor wear. The blade measures an impressive 33 inches and is serial numbered 73244. Overall sword length without scabbard is 38” and with scabbard 39.” The blade is bright and in excellent overall condition as is the walnut handle with leather finger loop. The Type 32 Cavalry Sword was an especially popular weapon in the Russo-Japanese war lasting from February 8, 1904 to September 5, 1905. The Imperial Japanese Type 32 Cavalry Sword is an artifact full of history on an international scale stretching throughout the first half of the 20th century.
