For your consideration is an Iver Johnson Top Break Safety .38 caliber revolver with the markings of the American Railway Express Company. The Railway Express Agency founded as the American Railway Express Agency and later renamed the American Railway Express Inc., was a national package delivery service that operated in the United States from 1918 to 1975. REA arranged transport and delivery via existing railroad infrastructure. This revolver features a 4" barrel, 5-shot break top cylinder, checkered hard rubber grip, and nickel finish. The top of the barrel reads “Iver Johnson’s Arms & Cycle Works, Fitchburg Mass. U.S.A”. The revolver is in fair condition showing a nice patina to the original nickel finish. The revolver utilizes factory hard rubber grips. The back of the grip frame is stamped “AM. RY. EX. CO. 8582”. The holster is stamped prominently on the main holster body - "AM. RY. EX. CO.". The holster shows a sturdy leather construction, with a beautiful rich brown finish. The early holster originates from the 1900's, and shows good condition overall, there is some slight cracking.
