Featured in this lot are two mid 20th century offset lithographs of John James Audubon's lithograph plates, "Louisiana Heron" and "Canada Goose". John James Audubon was a French-American artist, naturalist, and ornithologist notable for his extensive studies documenting all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations, which depicted the birds in their natural habitats. His major work, a color-plate book titled, "The Birds of America", considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed. The first off-set lithograph is titled, "Louisiana Heron, Ardea Ludoviciana. Wils Male Adult" and shows a Louisiana Heron standing in a swampy area around a river. He shows colors of blue, white, grey, black and orange. This is from Plate CCXVII and is numbered 44. The bottom left reads, "Drawn From Nature by J.J. Audubon", under the title reads, "From The Collection Of The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company" and the bottom right reads, "Engraved, Printed & Colored by R. Havell, 1834". The next piece is titled, "Canada Goose Anser Canadensis. Vieill. Male, 1. Female, 2." and shows two Canadian Geese sitting in tall, bushy grass. The male is standing with his neck stuck out as he makes a call out to the surrounding area, the female is seated under some tall grass and watches the male. The geese are surrounded by tall grass showing different shades of green, while the geese themselves show colors of black, brown, grey and white. This is Plate CCI. The bottom left reads, "Drawn From Nature by J. J. Audubon", under the title it reads, "William H. Coverdale, Collection of Canadian" and the bottom right reads, "Engraved, Printed & Colored by R. Havell". Both pieces show good condition overall with some slight wear to the black frames but no signs of damage or wear are present on the off-set lithographs. The first measures 14 11/16" L x 20 1/8" W, while the second piece measures 19 11/16" L x 16 5/8" W.
