Featured in this lot is this John Kleinschmidt collection of Capt. Meriwether Lewis ink brand impression and letter circa 1942 (this is an original ink impression of the original brand in the custody of the Oregon Historical Society). This collection of collector ephemera includes correspondence relating to the acquisition of original old brand that historically tamed the west with the original ink rubbing of the Captain Meriwether Lewis brand that was used to mark supplies and also the surrounding trees during the expedition to mark the legitimate route taken. The letter explains that the owner (Oregon Historical Society) or the Captain Lewis brand is sorry they could not comply in the parting of the brand, but explains they made the impression in the hopes that the brand collector John Kleinschmidt could use as a display for a variety of the projects he was a part of. The condition of this collection of Branding Iron Ephemera is good and well preserved with a full collection of preserved documents and a ink rubbing of the official Capt. M Lewis brand. The measurements of this collection of ephemera is 11 1/8" x 8 1/2" inside the protective covering. The collective weight of this collection of ephemera is U4oz.
