For your consideration are two original photos of The Casino in Manitou Park, Colorado, taken by J.L. Clinton in the early 1890s. J.L. Clinton was a photographer active in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in the late 19th century. He is known for being a successor to F.A. Nims and for publishing scenic views of New Mexico and Colorado for the Colorado Midland Railway. He also partnered in the firm Rudy & Clinton in 1889. The Casino, as it is mentioned was a hotel, billiard and casino room for travelers and locals alike. It burnt down in 1899 and was never rebuilt. These two photos are almost identical, taken from roughly the same spot. The first and marked (front) photo shows a stagecoach taking visitors to and from locations. A horse is hitched to a wood fence at the front and a man stands near the side of building looking towards the photographer. The photo is marked on the front reading, "The Casino, Manitou Park, Colo. C.M. Ry.". The second photo shows a similar scene of a stagecoach leaving the building packed full with riders. The backs of the photos are marked reading, "J.L. Clinton Scenic Photgrapher / 20 Pike's Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado / Outside, Groups And Interiors, A Large Line of Colorado And New Mexico Views". They show good condition overall with slight wear present from their age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. They measure 6 7/8" L x 9 7/8" W and have a collective weight of under 6 ounces.
