Featured in this lot is this beautifully crafted cast iron lawn jockey sculpture done by J.W. Fiske Iron Works in New York in the late 19th / early 20th century. J.W. Fiske Iron Works was a well-known American foundry and manufacturer situated in New York City during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The company was known for its ornamental cast iron, zinc, and bronze work, which included fountains, garden statues, urns, weathervanes, hitching posts, and other decorative architectural components. The company began operations in the mid-19th century (during the 1850s and 1860s) and rose to become one of the top manufacturers of ornate ironwork in the United States. Fiske's work mirrored European influences, particularly French and English garden design traditions, and was part of the larger American Renaissance trend, which saw wealthy clients seeking highly ornamental, European-inspired additions for their homes and gardens. This piece shows a jockey, standing on a base with his arm held out in front of him holding a ring. The front of the base is marked reading, "J.W. Fiske Iron WKS. N.Y.". It shows good condition overall with little wear present and no signs of obvious damage. It measures 15 1/8" L x 19" W x 50 1/2" H. weight 162 pounds151
