Featured in this lot is this Jack Connolly Billings, Mont. custom saddle circa 1920's. The saddle features a wonderfully and professionally crafted leather and wooden tree construction. The three Connolly sons (Jack, Andrew, and Pat) split with their father in 1907 to relocate to Butte, Montana, which was the start up location of the first Connolly Bros Harness Shop. In 1912, Jack and Pat moved on to Billings, where Jack was credited with expanding the business into saddle manufacture. In the year of the stock market crash, which led to the Great Depression in 1929, Jack moved himself to Livingston, Montana, where Jack Connolly Saddlery was formed. Jacks craftsmanship is so exceptional, the saddle shows beauty through simplicity, with tooling to and the seat jockey with some tooling to the skirt. The saddle is marked on the seat behind the horn and the back of the seat as follows: Connelly Bros - Billings, Mont. The condition of this Connelly Bros saddle is well preserved with some wear tot he leather and the fleece under the skirt and the rigging shows some discoloration to the leather but otherwise is well preserved for its age and use. The overall measurements of this saddle is 32 1/2" x 17 1/2" x 26 1/4" with a 14" seat. The collective weight of this saddle is 33lb 15oz.
