This is a pair of light colored batwing chaps attributed to being hand crafted and sold by Jack Connolly of Livingston, Montana. The batwing design features clasps that close only around the upper leg with flaps extend the length of the leg. This allowed for protection against brush and trees yet allowed for maximum air circulation. These chaps feature beige leather with contrasting green trim. At the bottom of each leg flap is what appears to be a brand that was stitched onto the leather. The chaps are in well-worn but solid condition. The chaps are from the renowned Bud Chapman collection in Bozeman, Montana. Bud previously, before his passing, claimed these to be a rare set of unmarked Jack Connolly chaps. Bud Chapman was one of the foremost collectors of the Connolly Bros and Jack Connolly. The three Connolly sons (Jack, Andrew, and Pat) split with their father in 1907 to relocate to Butte, Montana, which was the start up location of the first Connolly Bros Harness Shop. In 1912, Jack and Pat moved on to Billings, where Jack was credited with expanding the business into saddle manufacture. In the year of the stock market crash, which led to the Great Depression (1929), Jack moved himself to Livingston, Montana, where Jack Connolly Saddlery was formed.
