Featured in this lot we have a group of Japanese kozuka knives and kogai needle for katana saya. The collection consists of one kozuka and kogai set with one additional kozuka. Kozuka are small knives stored in grooves called Kozuka Hitsu along a katana's saya and was more often used for crafting than combat. Kogai, also known as a sword needle is a hair dressing tool as well as an ornamental piece and it sits on the other side of the scabbard in a similar groove to the Kozuka. The pair shows steel construction with ornamental brass inlay showing three geometric leaf designs on both the grips. The blade of the kozuka is marked in Japanese with file marks across that side. The final kozuka displays a iron or steel blade with a copper grip. The grip features an embossed geometric pattern and faded markings on the blade. The blades also come with a photo from their acquisition in 1980 with a piece of paper marking them as "Miscellaneous Kadzuka and Kogai". The pair each measure 8 3/8" long with the second kozuka measuring 8" long. The collections weighs 4oz.
