Presented in this lot is a beautiful and serene Original Jerry Bishop Watercolour on Paper, Abandoned Farm Snowscene, signed "bishop", mounted in a rustic wood frame. Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection. Owen David Mort was an American engineer who amassed an impressive collection throughout his worldwide travels. His collection has included art, artifacts and other historical items from which he has donated to museums at the University of Utah and Snite Museum of Art, the University of Notre Dame, including African, Afghan, Indian, Mughal, Persian and Far East Asian art and artifacts. The watercolour depicts a farmhouse on an early winter morning surrounded by a barn and four other outbuildings, all without doors. The abandoned buildings have shake roofs, some appear to be sagging, sunrise glow outlining the buildings' wood siding. The trees and shrubs directly around the buildings are devoid of leaves, though those in the background are still clothed, the rising sun's glow highlighting their shapes; snow is visible in patches around the grounds. A barbed wire fence in the foreground is also sagging, the posts in various stages of disrepair. Jerry Bishop was born in Bentonville Arkansas, where he grew up hunting and fishing in the Ozarks. After majoring in art at the University of Arkansas he worked in advertising for several years. His love of nature has had a great influence on his artwork and he began to specialize in painting birds and fish, but his watercolors also encompass other wildlife. Jerry has been painting professional since 1977. Today his watercolors are represented on all of the continents. His work may be seen at his gallery in Silver Dollar City, Branson, Mo., where he has been their resident artist since 1995. This triple-matted solid wood framed watercolour is in nice condition, no marring observed to the painting nor to the frame. Visible art measures 3.5"W x 12.75"L, frame is 12.5"W x 22.5"L x 1.25"D, weight 3lb, 8oz.
