Featured in this lot is a Lee K. Parkinson Original Oil on Canvas, Abandoned Farm, '73. Provenance: the Owen D. Mort, Jr. Collection. Owen David Mort was an American engineer who amassed an impressive collection throughout his worldwide travels. His collection has included art, artifacts and other historical items from which he has donated to museums at the University of Utah and Snite Museum of Art, the University of Notre Dame, including African, Afghan, Indian, Mughal, Persian and Far East Asian art and artifacts. Born in Utah in 1913, artist Lee K. Parkinson was to spend most of his career traveling and painting scenes of the American West. With formal training in Los Angeles and at the Chicago Institute of Art, Parkinson began his career in commercial art working for Universal Studios. Primarily a watercolorist, painter Lee Parkinson found his fine arts training and beloved West calling him back by 1960. With the early influences of Utah artist LeConte Stewart still with him, artist Lee Parkinson committed himself to painting, pursuing oil techniques, and even developing a glazing medium for oil paint. Today there are many reproductions of Lee K. Parkinson landscapes for sale in books and cards, and original oils depicting Nevada, New Mexico, California, and Wyoming landscapes hang in galleries and private collections around the world. This painting features an abandoned farmhouse in the near foreground, surrounded by greenish-blue desert sagebrush, an outbuilding in the backyard and two other abandoned houses in the near background. A tall mountain range is seen in the distance, white clouds above and behind. This matted canvas oil painting is in very nice condition, professionally mounted in a solid wood frame with provenance attached on the rear side. Visible art measures 19.5"W x 29.5"L, frame is 27.75"W x 37.75"L x 2.5"D approx., weight 7lb, 14oz.
