This is an original signature of famed Tombstone figure John Slaughter (1841-1922) on a Pima County Bank Check circa 1880 with accompanying photograph of John Slaughter; Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The check is an original Agency Pima County Bank Tombstone, Arizona Territory November 8th, 1880 check which has been signed / endorsed by John H. Slaughter on the back (frame showing the back of the check), a copy of the front of the check is on the back for representation from W. Coffee for $1,000. The back of the check is shown with both the endorsement of W. Coffee and John H. Slaughter, signature by his hand, a truly rare original. The photograph is of John Slaughter at his ranch in San Bernardino Ranch, Cochise County, Arizona in 1915. John Horton Slaughter (October 2, 1841 – February 16, 1922), also known as Texas John Slaughter, was an American lawman, cowboy, poker player and rancher in the Southwestern United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. After serving in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War, Slaughter earned a reputation fighting hostile Indians and Mexican and American outlaws in the Arizona and New Mexico territories. In the latter half of his life, he lived at the San Bernardino Ranch, which is today a well-preserved National Historic Landmark in Cochise County in far southeastern Arizona. In 1964, he was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The condition of this framed John Slaughter display is good with no obvious signs of damage to the display or the frame and shows a good overall condition. The measurements of this framed display is 15 1/8" x 12 1/8" and the visible photograph measures 6 3/4" x 9". The collective weight of this framed display is 2lb. LO16
