Featured in this lot is this Joseph Schnell Model 40 leather & split willow fishing creel from the 1930-40s. Joseph Schnell was one of the creel makers in Portland, Oregon, during the 1920s and 1930s. He was linked with the George Lawrence firm, but also created creels under his own name with his own distinct style and tooling patterns. This creel shows a tight split willow weave and is reinforced with beautiful leather with intricate tooled, geometric designs. The top features a hole to throw fish in after catching them and the back shows a small handle for carrying. The creel houses a shoulder strap to be connected to the back through two small slots for easy carrying. The back is stamped showing the model number reading, "40". The fishing creel shows good condition overall with some wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage noted. It measures 7" L x 15 1/8" W x 9 1/4" H and weighs 2 pounds and 6 ounces.
