The lot features a large bowie chopping knife marked “NONXXL JUKESCOUL SON & CO SHEFFIELD”. The knife and sheath are of a contemporary manufacture. The knife has a heavy thick spine with very large blade and black Buffalo horn two-piece handle having silver hilt and silvered rivets. The sheath shows a parfleche rawhide with polychrome painted design in a typical remnant in red, yellow, green and blue with black outline. The sheath is held together with hide ties. This pattern of Camp Bowie Knife was originally imported by the Hudson Bay Co. and distributed by various fur traders in the 1840’s becoming very popular due to is menacing size and usability. Knife measures 13 5/8”L with a 9”L blade that is about 2”W. The sheath is 12”L by 4”W.
