Featured in this lot is this "Encampment of the Piekann Indians" hand colored lithograph by Karl Bodmer, born 1809 and passed in 1893. The lithograph features a very well colored, by hand, lithograph that reads: "Encampment of Piekann Indians near Fort Mckenzie. Johann Carl Bodmer (1809-1893) a Swiss-French printmaker, etcher, lithographer, zinc engraver, draughtsman, painter, illustrator and hunter." Karl Bodmer was known in literature and paintings as a Swiss and French citizen; his name was recorded as Johann Karl Bodmer and Jean-Charles Bodmer, respectively. The condition of this hand colored litho is good and well preserved, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this framed hand colored lithograph are 21 3/4" x 26 3/4" and the visible art measures 13" x 17 3/4". Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector, Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman, which was both part museum and gallery.
