Tiny Kolb Baby Hammerless .22 Rim Fire folding trigger revolver. This vest pocket revolver was made in the 1890s and was a popular firearm with anyone wanting extreme concealment. Measuring only 4 inches in overall length and sporting a 1 ¼ inch barrel, such a small revolver could be hidden from sight with ease. Women could carry one in a small clutch purse or pocket. Men frequently carried such armament in vest pockets. This example was made by Henry Kolb or Philadelphia, PA and is clearly marked on the top strap over the cylinder “Pat. Feb. 2. 92- Feb. 4. 96” over “BABY HAMMERLESS” over “NEW MODEL.” It featured rounded “bird’s head” grips and a folding trigger that when pulled revolved the cylinder and dropped the internal striker or hammer to fire a cartridge. The cylinder was removed for loading and unloading by depressing a spring held catch on the right side ahead of the cylinder, pulling the cylinder pin and removing the cylinder. The cylinder pin could also be used to push out fired cases. Overall, this is a remarkably excellent condition example that retains about all of the original bright nickel plating on the frame and barrel with fire blue still intact on the main frame screw head. The cylinder shows fine nickel with only some normal flaking. The metal under the flaked nickel blends and makes for a most attractive example. The barrel is rifled with an excellent bore and the barrel top retains the small blade front sight. The original checkered and embossed decorative designed grips are excellent with no chipping or cracking. Tiny revolvers and derringers like this were often carried frequently and show wear. This is a superb example with good mechanics that reflects a time in American history when gentlemen and ladies commonly carried small arms for their personal protection. Most of these similar arms were cheaply manufactured in Belgium and are unmarked. Those made in the U. S. and so marked were typically of high quality and were most in demand during their time of use and, now in the present time, by collectors. The revolver weighs 4oz. Serial Number: 772. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
