This is an excellent large bronze spear lance with brass tacked Buffalo hide and trade clothe accented by beadwork and feathers from master artist John Young Buck of the Lakota Sioux Native American Indians. The piece was handmade by full blood Lakota Sioux Indian John Young Buck (Born 1944-) in the circa late 1900’s to early 2000’s and displayed in a Red Lodge, Montana Ranch. First the piece exhibits a large spontoon lance head being solid bronze with molded chevron with incised pattern secured to the large spear handle and wrapped in rawhide with solid brass trade tacks. The spear shaft shows two large sections of Great American Bison Buffalo wrappings, dark blue stroud trade clothe and rawhide wrappings which are accented by over six large band sections of glass trade pony and seed beads in red and white. The buffalo hide sections have a tanned hide fringe dangling with each holding three turkey feathers wrapped in blue stroud trade clothe, white trade beads and several solid brass trade beads. The end of the staff is wrapped in tanned hide. The piece displays beautifully and is in good condition. John Young Buck of the Lakota Sioux Tribe from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation is considered to be one of the finest Native American artist of the late 20th to early 21st Century. The lance measures overall 69”L with the spear head area that is showing measures 8.5”L by 2 1/8”W.
