This is a catlinite pipestone pipe tomahawk smoking bowl, dating to circa 1930's, from the Lakota Sioux Native American Indians of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. The Indian Reservation period piece shows the shape of a pipe tomahawk war club with a western wide blade, cylindrical tall thin smoking bowl, and square long pipe stem connection section. The pipe is covered in hand etched engraved or carved, beautiful artistic patterns showing flowing plants, leaves, a Sioux pinwheel, and geometric shapes. The piece is carved from solid Minnesota Pipestone Catlinite featuring a nice red coloring with pink speckling. Overall, the piece is in good condition and displays minor chipping and wear. Measures overall 6" by 3.75" by 3/4".
