Featured in this lot is a large 6 3/4" St. Charles Dovetail spear point 9000 - 5000 B.P. The St. Charles (also known as the Dovetail or Plevna) is a medium to large point and has narrow corner or side notches which define the base or stem. The base is fan shaped and resembles the spread out tail of a dove, hence they have been known as Dovetails. The blade is triangular and has a broad wide face with excurvate edges and a lenticular cross-section when new. The spear point features a wonderfully and professionally crafted off white chert material that shows very wide serrated points with sharp shoulders, a flared stem and is professionally knapped. The overall condition of this projectile point is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this point are 6 5/8"L x 3 1/8"W. The collective weight of this point is 4oz.*
