For your consideration is a Large Caribou Taxidermy Shoulder Mount. From an ex-Boston area estate collection. Featured in this lot is this large North American Caribou taxidermy shoulder mount. Posed in an upright position slightly turned towards the viewer's right. A professionally tanned hide of beautiful cream and milk chocolate brown coat of hair and a massive set of antlers. Often called reindeer, caribou and caribou are related and from the same deer species, of the family Cervidae. They can look similar but have distinct differences. All reindeer are in Asia and Europe while Caribou are in North America, and while Caribou antlers are tall and curved, with a more sprawling or random pattern, reindeer antlers are sharp and pointy, with a straighter or more uniform appearance. This impressive Caribou shoulder mount has large palmated tops from the main beams and a right-side shovel, also called "brow palm". The forward-extending lower portion of the main beam, the bez branches into five fingers, with the right side palmated. The expression is wonderful, the glass eyes are clear and the antlers are impressive. The dewlap is soft and thick. The fur is in good condition with some natural color variations but no flaws found. The antlers show the original felt attached to the antlers with a soft complexion. The condition of this caribou taxidermy shoulder mount is is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The overall measurements of this elk mount is 41"L x 31"W x 61"H. Antler overall spread measurement is 31"W, main beams 41"L, longest tine 16"L. Overall weight approximately 41lb 12oz.
