Featured in this lot is a Late 18th Century French Louis XV Writing or Side Table. Louis XV style is the epitome of French furniture at its finest. The eighteenth century is considered the Golden age of French furniture. It was during this time that the most refined and beautiful Royal furniture was made in the busy Paris workshops of Europe's elite cabinet makers. Rococo motifs are central to Louis XV furniture design. These include C-scrolls, S-scrolls, acanthus leaves, rocaille (shell-like) patterns, and pastoral scenes. These elements were used to create a sense of movement and natural beauty, often giving the furniture a light, almost whimsical appearance. The hand-carved writing desk features a three-panel rectangular Dupont lip edge top, a single key lock drawer (key not included), scalloped aprons on all four sides, elegant cabriole legs. This beautiful table is in very nice preserved condition, the natural condition of the wood is visible consistent with the nature-inspired focus of the Louis XV period. Measures 25.75"W x 34.75"L x 29.5"H and weighs 40 pounds.
