Featured in this lot we have a Lefever Arms Co double barrel break action shotgun chambered in 12 gauge. Lefever Arms Co was founded in 1883 by Daniel Myron Lefever with the first patent filed in 1880, but Ames Howlett became the president of the company rather than Daniel. The company operated and produced shotguns from 1883 to 1916 when they where sold to Ithica Gun Company. In 1901 Daniel Lefever along with his sons in the company seperated and formed their own company D.M. Lefever & Sons. This shotgun is marked "Lefever Arms Co" and shows only 1870's and 1880's patent dates indicating a pre 1900's manufacture date. This shotgun displays 32" long solid rib side by side Damascus barrels, walnut stocks, double trigger design, bead front sight, and hammerless break action. Its marked across the sides of the receiver reading "Lefever Arms Co.," with the trigger guard marked with "Patented . 1872. 78. 80. 85. 86. 87.". Mechanically the shotgun shows good crisp triggers and a very tight cocking mechanics. The shotgun shows fair condition overall with signs of wear due to handling and some repairs on the stock. The shotgun weighs 9lbs. Serial Number: 18493. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
