Featured in this lot is this Chippewa / Cree Deer Foot Tacked and Beaded Tomahawk made by Leonard & Laurie Many Trails in the 20th Century. This tomahawk features a solid wood construction and is tacked with metal tacks and features a beaded section. The beaded section shows seed bead colours of light blue, cream and blue. The bottom of the tomahawk is set with a deer foot and held in place with rawhide wrapping. The shaft of the tomahawk is adorned with three turkey feathers with Venetian trade beads and metal beads. The tomahawk head is stamped reading, "L & C / 1806", with fur between the head and the seed bead band. The Chippewa Cree Tribe (Ne Hiyawak) is a federally recognized tribe based on the Rocky Boy's Reservation in north-central Montana. The tribe is a combination of the Rocky Boy's Band of Chippewas and the Little Bear Band of Cree. Formed by Chippewa (Ojibwe) and Cree peoples, the tribe is known for its strong, distinct culture, a 117,365-acre reservation established in 1916, and an economy based on agriculture and livestock. The tribe speaks Cree and Ojibwe, often referring to themselves as Ne Hiyawak ("those who speak the same language"). They share a rich heritage with strong, independent, and, in some cases, migratory traditions, especially for the Cree. It shows good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of damage noted. It measures 6.25"W x 22.5"L x 1.625"D, weight 1lb 6 oz. TURKEY FEATHERS
