Featured in this lot is this pair of salesman sampler rugs from Navajo artist Joann Johnson circa 20th century. There are two rugs in this collection both of a Chinle Trading Post design. The first shows a stepped decorative design with white and grey to the stepped medallions and set to a black field. The next rug shows a banded design with small medallions sequestered to their perspective bands with teal or blue and maroon coloration set to a grey field with black tassels. These samplers were bought directly from Joann Johnson, a Navajo weaver with a tribal family that Joan is from goes back many generations of accomplished Navajo weavers. The condition of this pair of Navajo salesman sampler rugs is well preserved with no obvious signs of damage and shows a well preserved overall condition. The measurements of the sampler rugs is 11 1/2" x 11 3/4" and 12" x 11 1/2".
