Presented in this lot is the Rare Edition of, "Episodes From Life Among the Indians AND Last Rambles", George Catlin, University of Oklahoma Press 1959. From the publisher series, "Civilization of the American Indian Series". Includes appendices, editor's bibliography & index. Fascinating account of famed artist's travels among the indigenous peoples of North and South America in the 1850s. 163 scenes and portraits, including 12 color plates, Indians, their clothing, ornamentation and weapons, plus views of village life and landscapes. One of the best, most reliable sources of information on many now-vanished native cultures. George Catlin was an American adventurer, lawyer, painter, author, and traveler, who specialized in portraits of Native Americans in the Old West. Traveling to the American West five times during the 1830s, Catlin wrote about and painted portraits that depicted the life of the Plains Indians. This blue-green cloth bound hardbound gold gilt book is in good overall condition, pages intact. Slight scuffing of cover edges, age tanning to pages with foxing noted on inside front and rear cover pages and boards. No other obvious marring noted, measures 7.25"W x 10.5"L x 1.25"D
