For your consideration is this First Edition of “Life of Daniel Boone" by Cecil B. Hartley, 1865, publisher J. E. Potter and Company, Philadelphia. This book includes an account of Boone's early history; his daring and remarkable career as the first settler of Kentucky; his thrilling adventures with the Indians; and his wonderful skill, coolness, and sagacity under all the hazardous and trying circumstances of western border life. Daniel Boone (1734-1820) was an American pioneer and hunter whose frontier exploits made him one of the first folk heroes of the United States. Boone is most known for his explorations in Kentucky. Boone was a Militia officer during the American Revolutionary War. In 1778 Boone was captured by Shawnees and adopted into the tribe, but he later escaped. His adventures, real and legendary, were influential in creating the archetypal Western hero in American folklore. Illustrated front cover and spine. "Cecil B. Hartley" was the male pseudonym, "nom de plume" of Florence Hartley, a prominent 19th-century American Victorian-era author and biographer known for her works on history, etiquette, and prominent American figures. The red and black cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in good overall condition, front cover gold gilt is bright, scuffing and sllight staining noted on covers and edges, boards partially detached. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing. No other obvious marring observed. The book measures 5.25"W x 7.5"L x 1"D, weight is 1lb, 8oz.
