Life on the Mississippi is a classic memoir by Mark Twain, published in 1883, that chronicles his experiences as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River before the Civil War and his return to the river years later. It blends autobiography, travelogue, and social commentary, offering a vivid, humorous, and sometimes melancholy look at the steamboat era, its colorful characters, and the changing landscape of the American South, serving as a companion piece to Huckleberry Finn. Mark Twain (1835-1910), he pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, was a seminal American author, humorist, and lecturer often called the "father of American literature". Spine vignette is of a ship's pilot at the steering wheel. Gold gilt is still bright and clean. Scuffing and fabric splits exhibited on cover edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and slight foxing throughout, boards separated from the pages. Measures 5.75"W x 9"L x 1.75"D, weight is 2lb, 10oz.
