Offered in this lot is a Vintage Lightolier Chandelier, Brass Finish with Five Arms and Hand-Blown Decorative Glass Bobeches, circa Mid-century Modern. Lightolier was founded in 1904 in New York under the name, New York Gas and Appliance Co. When electric lighting started to be more widely accepted, the name was changed to Lightolier, a contraction of the words light and chandelier. Family-operated through most of its history, Lightolier was one of the pioneering American electric lighting companies, best known for its embrace of stylistic and technical innovations. The company originally specialized in fancy decorative chandeliers then shifted to high-end designs and architectural markets in the 1920s.
The chandelier is in amazing condition considering its age. The upper 5" glass globe is stylized to match the glass bobeches which sparkle without any cloudiness, slight chips noticed on the lips of a couple. The brass finish has faded leaving a consistent silver patina on the metal portions of the chandelier. The electrical wires are period age and most likely not acceptable for modern electrical wiring requirements. No other obvious damage noted. Measures 16"W x 18"L
