Included in this lot are two hardcover, first edition books, "Lone Cowboy My Life Story" and "Sand" by Will James. The first book, "Lone Cowboy My Life Story", was published in 1930 by Charles Scribner's Sons, located in New York and London. The book details the life and adventures of Will James' life as a cowboy. The piece contains 35 black and white illustrations throughout the book. The cover of the book shows a green cloth cover with gilt gold lettering and a graphic of a cowboy on horseback. The second book, "Sand”, is a first edition book that was published in 1929 by Charles Scribner's Sons, located in New York and London. Illustrated from drawings and paintings by Will James, this is a story about "sand"—the gumption it takes to tackle the challenges of life. Set in the high plains, the characters are cowboys and horses. At the heart of the story is the hero's long duel with the black stallion and how "the little grain of sand within him" starts to grow. Will James (1892-1942), artist and writer of the American West, was born Joseph Ernest Nephtali Dufault. It was during his creative years everyone grew to know him as Will James. During the next several years, he drifted, worked at several jobs, was briefly jailed for cattle rustling, served in the army, and began selling his sketches. In 1922, he sold his first writing. Both books show good condition overall, with some light wear. "Lone Cowboy My Life Story" measures 8 1/2" tall by 6" wide. "Sand" measures 8 1/4" by 5 1/2".
