Featured in this lot is an 18th Century Louis XV Régence Fauteuil Upholstered Arm Chair, circa 1715-1723. The Régence was the period in French history between 1715 and 1723 when King Louis XV was considered a minor and the country was instead governed by Philippe II, Duke of Orleans, prince regent. Armchair in walnut wood, handcarved and waxed; high and wide straight backrest slightly inclined and curved at the top. Armrests are delicately carved in acanthus leaf designs with scallops at the hands. Serpentine carved side rails have centre scallops and acanthus leaves. Front apron is extensively carved with acanthus leaves over crosshatch stamping. Rails are tied to finely carved legs with scrolled curved stretchers finishing in snail foot designs. Floral design of opulent upholstery features soft colours of pink, green, yellow, greyish blue, and white lay against a soft yellow background, all trimmed in nicely aged brass tacks. Rich patina exhibited throughout chair, no marring observed. Measures 27"W x 30"W x 44"H and weighs 33 pounds.
