The box luggage features a wonderfully and professionally crafted fully leather wrapped with geometric patterns stained and stamped to the surface with a plaque that reads as follows: M.C. Lilley & Co. Military & Society goods Columbus Ohio. The luggage features a large compartment with a flap that folds down to reveal an upper compartment and lined with cedar for easy cleaning. M.C. Lilley & Co., founded in Columbus, Ohio in 1865, quickly became one of the leading manufacturers of military, fraternal, and ceremonial regalia in the 19th century. The company produced uniforms, swords, badges, and accessories for organizations such as the Freemasons, Knights Templar, Odd Fellows, and various military units, playing a key role in outfitting both veterans and civic groups after the Civil War. Known for their high-quality craftsmanship and ornate designs, M.C. Lilley & Co. helped shape the visual identity of American ceremonial and patriotic culture during the Gilded Age. Their goods were widely distributed across the United States, making their name synonymous with prestige and formality. The condition of this M.C. Lilley & Co. luggage is preserved with some wear to the leather wrapping of the luggage with the two securing straps to the lid showing broken but otherwise shows a well preserved condition.
