For your consideration is this limited edition colored etching done by Mary Anna Lehman titled, "Dubious Intent" circa 1971. Mary Lehman, was raised in Spokane, Washington and rose to fame with her horse etchings, which she frequently colored with oil and watercolor. She attended the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles in 1938 and served in the Women's Army Corps in Los Alamos, California, during World War II. She wed Joseph Lehman in 1946. Resuming her studies in art, Lehman attended UCLA (1946), Chouinard School of painting in Los Angeles (1946–1951) and El Camino College in Torrance, California (1956–1958). After relocating to Rolling Hills Estates, California in 1963, she started her etching in 1968. In addition to Rex Brandt, Dan Lutz, Mildred Walker, Richard Haines, and others, she studied etching with Joe Mugniani. The etching shows two cowboys sitting on their horses in front of a large sunset. They appear to be having a conversation as the large sun sets in the background and their shadows are cast over the ground next to them. The bottom of the etching reads, "3/35 Color Ed / Dubious Intent / M. Lehman 6-1971" in pencil. The piece has been set in a beautiful decorative frame showing an interior wood frame, followed by a orange/red felt frame and ending with a wood frame showing colors of black and brown. The art and frame show good condition overall with slight wear present from its age and handling over the years, no signs of obvious damage is present. The visible art measures 8 5/8" L x 11 1/2" W, while the entire piece measures 19 1/16" L x 22" W x 2" D.
