For your consideration is this Marlin Firearms Framed Lithograph by Frederic Remington, "Danger Ahead", 1900. This was the original 1900 catalogue cover of the Marlin Fire Arms Co. The full Remington painting this was adapted from is titled, "His Last Stand", 1890, and features a large bear cornered on a rocky perch, three dogs surrounding it while this cowboy and his companion prepare to shoot the bear. Remington’s imagery appeared in advertising posters throughout his career. Early examples are those publicizing Buffalo Bill’s Wild West when it appeared in Paris in 1889. In addition to such posters, Remington’s artwork appeared on promotional posters for rifle companies such as the Winchester Repeating Arms Company and this one for Marlin Firearms 120-page catalogue in 1900. Today, a silhouetted figure of the mounted rifleman serves as the Marlin company’s logo. This lithograph is in nice preserved condition, staining visible at the top, small hole visible between horse's rear hooves. Frederic Remington's signature is at the lower right corner. "Copyrighted 1900 The Marlin Fire Arms Co." is at the lower left corner. The matted decorative black wood frame is in nice condition, slight scuffing observed on frame edges. Visible art measures 15.75"W x 23.75"L, frame is 23.5"W x 31.75"L x 1"D.
