Presented in this lot is an Original Signed M. Scovel Oil Painting on Canvas, 1985. Michael D. Scovel (1949), along with being a nationally renown Western art cartoonist, is also a notable oil painter of Western landscapes and people. In 1978, Leanin’ Tree Greetings began publishing Scovel’s paintings as part of the company’s Western greeting card line. His artwork is included in museum collections across the West, while some of his sculptures are public installations. This oil painting depicts an older Native American sitting on a horse and facing a barbed wire fence. There's a telephone pole just to their left. Both rider and horse appear tired. In the immediate background is a painted teepee, a rack of hides drying outside. In the far background, rolling hills and towering mountains offer freedom from the confinement of the fence, while overhead a raptor flies free. A very poignant scene of past remembrances and modern reality. The oil painting is in very nice preserved condition. Professionally mounted in a rustic barnwood frame with leather trim. Visible art measures 17.5"W x 23.5"L, frame 26.75"W x 32.75"L x 1.75"D.
