Marlin Model 1892 (M-’92) .32 caliber octagon rifle. This was one of the first Marlin rifles to feature side ejection and tube loading of cartridges. It was also the first lever action repeating rifle to offer a reversible firing pin to allow a shooter the option of using both Rim Fire cartridges or Center Fire cartridges, in this case the common and cheap .32 Rim Fire of the day or .32 Center Fire. Additionally, the Model ‘92 was the first Marlin with the popular takedown feature which was especially popular for the common train travel during this pre-automobile time in America. This example with serial number 392785 was made c. 1907-1908 and features an approx. 24” octagon barrel that was re-crowned at the muzzle for accuracy. It displays the original buckhorn rear sight with elevator bar and correct Rocky Mountain blade front sight. The receiver still retains some blue in the more protected areas with the balance an attractive plum/gray-brown. The barrel and magazine tube show good blue with some light freckling only. This rifle also retains excellent markings on the upper tang and barrel with last patent date of 1892. Interestingly, the butt stock has higher than standard grade of walnut exhibiting some nice fiddleback grain structure. The stock and forearm are uncleaned and both are in excellent condition. The action and takedown are tight, the hammer spring is strong as is the safety half-cock on the hammer which holds securely. The bore shows fine rifling with only light scattered corrosion that might brush out with a good cleaning. The Model 1892 in .32 caliber was a very popular farm and ranch rifle with most having seen heavy use and often abuse. This is a fine nearly 120 year old example with a most attractive appearance. The rifle weighs 5lbs 14oz. Serial Number: 392785. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
