Featured in this lot is this Marshall Williams: Note of Collection Notice from San Francisco Bank by way of Pima County Bank circa 1881 (Post Death); Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. The letter is a correspondence from San Francisco Bank backing the endeavors of the Pima County Bank to collect the note belonging to Marshall Williams, who was Marshall Williams was the Wells Fargo agent in Tombstone, Arizona, during the early 1880s—a period marked by lawlessness and the infamous Earp-Clanton feud. He played a notable role in several key events of the time. Marshall Williams was the individual who reached out to the U.S. Marshal office in San Francisco to inquire about the reward for the thieves that stole 6 mules from the U.S. Cavalry and was a companion of the Earp's through Tombstone adversity. This letter seems to be in conjunction with the note sent off to San Francisco. The letter comes with an original museum tag that reads as follows: Instruction to collect note on Marshall Williams. The condition of this San Francisco collection notice is well preserved with some browning to the letter consistent with the age but otherwise shows a well preserved condition.
