For your cosideration is "Mary and I, 40 Years With The Sioux", S. R. Riggs, 1887, Congregational Sunday School and Publishing Society. The book chronicles Riggs' experiences living among the Dakota Sioux Native American tribe for forty years, starting in the mid-19th century. Born in Ohio, Stephen Return Riggs (1812-1883) spent much of his life working as a missionary amongst members of the Dakota Sioux tribe in what is now the state of Minnesota. During this period, he also worked to document the language and culture of the Dakota Sioux, producing several important linguistic works. In 1862, he served as interpreter at the trials of the Sioux Uprising. The brown cloth bound silver gilt textured hardcover is in very nice condition. Intact pages exhibit age tanning, marbled endpapers. Measures 5.25"W x 7.625"L x 1.25"D, weight is 1lb, 6oz.
