Featured in this lot is a massive Japanese Satsuma gilt and glazed vase. The vase features a wonderfully and professionally crafted yellowish earthenware construction that features glazed design with landscape scenes that include herons and pheasants with landscape design of cherry blossoms and bonsai trees with floral shrubbery. The vase includes four scenes with two smaller ones at the top of the vase and two that are much larger along the side walling. The vase is marked 'Satsuma' and is believed to be a larger mid century piece due to the English nature of the hallmark. The vase is mounted on a wooden base that shows some chipping to the black paint but otherwise it has consistent condition and design. The typical Satsuma ware we most commonly come into contact with is a yellowish earthenware usually decorated with Japanese figures, expressive faces or detailed oriental landscapes, or sometimes they are embellished with vivid dragons in relief. This ware is in fact an export product specifically designed in the mid 19th century to cater to the western export market. The condition of this large vase is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this vase and its stand are 47" x 14 1/2" x 14 1/2".*
