Featured in this lot is this Mata Ortiz Sigraffito vase by Ricardo Delgado Cruz. The vase is wonderfully and professionally crafted ceramic construction that features a Sgraffito design with a blue jay design with cardinals on the sides of the vase and shows geometric patterns surrounding the birds with the cardinals perches on a tree limb. The vase is etched on the bottom Ricardo Delgado Cruz. Mata Ortiz pottery is a recreation of the Mogollon pottery found in and around the archeological site of Casas Grandes (Paquimé) in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Named after the modern town of Mata Ortiz, which is near the archeological site, the style was propagated by Juan Quezada Celado. Quezada learned on his own to recreate this ancient pottery and then went on to update it. The condition of this pottery vessel is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this pottery vessel is 8 1/2" x 6" x 6".
