Featured in this lot is this original, embossed etching of an original photo taken by Matzene Studio in the late 19th / early 20th century. This is of famous cowboy Vida Vandeveer, stamped and signed / written on back. Matzene Studio was the name given to three art photography galleries founded by Danish "Count" Jens Rudolph Matzene. Richard Gordon Matzene, also known as the "Count" Matzene, was an early 20th-century photographer who operated studios in Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles. He was known for his portraits of high-society figures, including celebrities, wealthy individuals, and politicians. His Chicago studio was established around 1900, and he continued to work there until 1937, though he also operated studios in other cities during that time. This lithograph photo shows a young man in western attire looking directly towards the viewer. He is wearing a belt with shell slots, a holster, a bandana around his neck, work gloves and a cowboy hat. The lithograph features an embossed stamp in the bottom left hand corner reading, "Matzene Studio / Chicago". It shows good condition overall with slight wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. Small tear present at the top and torn off corner in the bottom left is present. The piece measures 13 1/2" L x 9 3/4" W and weighs under 6 ounces.
