Featured in this lot is this McChesney, John Robert (1866-1928) "Gal Leg" bit circa 1910-1928. The bit features a wonderfully and professionally crafted stainless steel, bronze and silver mounted construction that shows a traditional "Gal Leg" design with stamped and etched decoration. Producer of handmade spurs and bits of one piece, John Robert McChesney was the first spur maker to widely market those Texas-style Western-gear items. He was born to Thomas Carvin and Rosetta Mattison McChesney on September 26, 1866, in South Bend, Indiana. Arrow, he developed the "goose neck" decorative style that soon developed into the "gal leg" style, which many also attribute to J. R. McChesney, as his work was known. The condition of this McChesney bit is good with some oxidation to the bit frame but otherwise shows good overall condition. The measurements of this bit is 4 7/8" x 5 1/2" x 1 1/4". The collective weight of this bit is 6oz.
