Included for sale in this lot is a collection of four Mckenney and Hall hand tinted lithographs of various Native American Indian Chiefs and Braves. The prints originally were part of a larger project - A three part series known as the "History of the Indian Tribes of North America", published between 1836-1844 to preserve "in the archives of the Government whatever of the aboriginal man can be rescued from the destruction which awaits his race.". The original paintings were completed by Charles Bird King, though McKenney wanted to reach a wider public, so he commissioned for lithograph copies of the paintings, and reached out to a judge, and Treasurer of the State of Illinois James Hall to accompany the portraits with a full biography of each subject. The beautiful lithographs that make up this collection consist of Naw-Kaw a Winnebago Chief, Ne-Sou-A-Quoit a Fox Chief, Petalesharro a Pawnee Brave, and Kish-Ke-Kosh a Fox Brave. The lithographs show very-good condition overall. Each print is professionally framed. Each frame measures 13 1/4" x 9 1/4".
