Included in this lot is the Rare First Edition Post-Civil War book about the life of General William Tecumseh Sherman, the Memorial Edition of "Life and Deeds of General Sherman", by Henry Davenport Northrop, 1891. "Life and Deeds of General Sherman" is a tribute to General William Tecumseh Sherman. His early life is described as well as his days at West Point and his early career in Florida, California, and Louisiana, daring deeds at Shiloh, Corinth, and Vicksburg, sublime achievements in the Georgia and Tennessee campaigns, and closing scenes of the great struggle, etc. The story of a great commander, hero and patriot, detailed account of Sherman’s Civil War exploits including his infamous March To The Sea, with engraved portrait frontispiece and numerous illustrations and maps. This brown clothbound gold gilt stamped hardcover is in good overall condition. Most of the gold gilt stamped illustrations on the front cover and spine is still bright. The spine has a crack located at the top edge with the front cover, scuffing noted to cover edges. Intact pages have fore-edge decorative painting, age tanning and foxing exhibited, no other obvious marring noted. Measures 5.25"W x 8.25"L x 1.25"D approximately.
