This is a fine example of a Merwin & Bray, Plants Patent, front loading revolver. The firearm is chambered in the .42 cupfire caliber, designed for front end loading. The revolver was manufactured in the 1860's, and was designed in such a way to not infringe on Smith & Wesson's "Rollin White" cylinder patent. The revolver utilizes a beautiful brass frame with a silver plate finish, 6" blue'd octagon barrel, two-piece rosewood grips, spur trigger, German silver blade front sight, and an integral rear sight, machined into the top of the frame. In addition to the front loading design, the revolver uses an interesting forward ejecting extractor rod - Placed on the right side of the frame. The revolver is marked in numerous places, reading; "PATENTED JULY 12. 1859 & JULY 21. 1863" across the cylinder, "MERWIN & BRAY.NEW YORK" on the left side of the barrel, and "PLANT MFG. CO. NEWHAVEN. CT" on the top of the barrel. Overall, the revolver shows very-good aesthetic condition, and good mechanical condition. Aesthetically, the revolver shows a mellow mustard yellow patina on the brass frame, underneath the remnants of the silver plate, and a nice naturally aged blue on the barrel. The grips additionally show good condition. Mechanically, the revolver has a tight action, in good time. The cylinder has also has a tight lock-up. The bore shows good condition, with strong rifling, but some darkness. The revolver qualifies as an Antique Hand Gun, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: 1811.
