Featured for sale in this lot is a fantastic example of the Remington Model 1875, Single Action Army revolver, chambered for .44 Remington. The M1875, otherwise known as the "Improved Army" or the "Frontier Army" was designed in 1874, and manufactured between 1875-1889 in order to compete with the renowned Colt Single Action Army - Though the design failed to catch mainstream popularity due to the Hartford firm's two-year head start in production, and sales. Approximately 25,000 examples were produced in the short 14 year manufacture period. The 1875 came in three caliber's over its lifetime, and are one of the main factors of dating the revolvers - first offered in the .44 Remington, followed by the .44-40 WCF, and finally in .45 Colt. In addition to the .44 Remington chambering, the revolver additionally utilizes a 7 1/2" barrel, optional lanyard butt ring, walnut grip panels, full nickel finish, and the small blade type post front sight. Though the firearm shows a striking resemblance to the famous Peacemaker, the main differentiating trait is the full underlug extractor, which is fit directly under the barrel, instead of the Colt method, which placed the extractor rod at a slight angle. As well, the thumb depressor is placed on the right side of the barrel, instead of the Colt, which was on the left. Overall, the revolver shows good condition. Aesthetically, the revolver shows good retention of its nickel finish, good walnut grip panles, and a nice naturally aged patina. Mechanically, the revolver has a tight action, which is in good time. The cylinder of the revolver has a reasonable lock-up, and the bore shows good condition overall. The revolver qualifies as an Antique Hand Gun, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check. Serial Number: NSN.
