This is an authentic, mid-19th-century American Indian presentation dag knife with exquisite bone tusk handle with beaded sheath attributed to the Blackfoot / Blackfeet Indians from the ex-collection of Jim Dresslar and Tom Hardy. Provenance: From the ex-collection of Jim Dresslar, renowned collector who sold the piece to Tom Hardy in the early 2000’s. This is truly a scarce presentation grade walrus tusk bone handled dag knife secured to the forged iron blade with seven silver rivets. The dag knife has a beaver back or beaver tail pattern with hand-forged iron blade having a median ridge running down the center. The blade has some oxidation and wear and the walrus tusk has deep rich yellow coloring from honest age and wear. The sheath is comprised of Indian brain-tanned buffalo / bison hide that is sinew sewn with a beautifully beaded step geometric design done in period correct 19th-century glass trade seed beads. The beadwork includes colors of greasy yellow, red white hearts, cobalt blue, chalk white and greasy light blue. There is a row of rolled tin jingle dangle cones tied on Indian tanned hide at the center and long frilly fringe of Indian tanned hide hanging down off the bottom. The original braided Indian hide strap is still attached. From the Jim Dresslar and Tom Hard Collections. Sheath measures 10-1/2 inches long by 3-inches wide. Total length of sheath with fringe is 21-inches. Knife is 12-inches in length.
