Featured in this lot is a fertility effigy pregnancy figurine from Mississippian period and aged from 1000 - 1540 B.P. The figurine is constructed from a mixed mineral quartz stone and features a pregnant woman with carved legs and a slightly carved face. The fertility effigy is regarded as a powerful entity, usually a goddess or guardian spirit, and became powerful symbols to help further promote fertility and safety in childbirth. The condition of this fertility effigy is good despite its age; the fertility figurine shows wear from age and use. The measurements of this fertility effigy are 6 5/8" x 1 1/2" x 2 1/4".
