Mobil Oil's history is rooted in the 19th century, with key predecessor companies like Vacuum Oil Company and Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony). Vacuum Oil Company, founded in 1866, became part of the Standard Oil Trust before becoming independent again in 1911. Socony was established by the Standard Oil Trust in 1882 and also became independent in 1911. These two companies merged in 1931 to form Socony-Vacuum Corporation. The name evolved through various changes, eventually becoming Mobil Oil Corporation in 1966. This canister shows a silver top and bottom with a white, red and blue color scheme throughout its entirety.
